John A. Draughon is a partner in the law firm of Sell & Melton, LLP where he is engaged in civil trial practice. Admitted to practice in 1975, Mr. Draughon’s civil litigation experience includes eminent domain proceedings, hospital and business law, employment discrimination, construction law, alternate dispute resolution (mediation), bodily injury, contract and property damage claims, ERISA and local governmental law. Mr. Draughon is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the United States Supreme Court. He has degrees from Emory University (BBA 1968), Mercer University School of Law (JD cum laude 1975) and Georgia College and State University (MBA 1979). Mr. Draughon served as a personnel officer in United States Air Force from 1969 until 1972, when he began his studies at the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He is married and has a daughter and son, both of whom are grown and married, with their own children.
Mr. Draughon is rated “AV” by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. These are the highest ratings for legal ability and general ethical standards. Mr. Draughon is past President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), whose membership is based upon high personal character, honorable reputation and proficiency as a trial lawyer.
Mr. Draughon is a member of the Macon Civic Club, the Gridiron Secret Society and Vineville United Methodist Church. Mr. Draughon also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Medcen Community Health Foundation. He is presently serving as Chairman of the Robert Burns Society, Idle Hour Chapter. Other civic and charitable activities have included President of the Macon SAE Alumnae Society, President of the Webb Fellowship Class, President of the Macon Youth Foundation, Member of the Board of Directors of the Macon Civic Club and Idle Hour Country Club and Committee Member of the American Cancer Society Macon Chapter and the Macon Chamber of Commerce.
